Adafruit Ultimate GPS HAT for Raspberry Pi A+/B+/Pi 2/3/4/Pi 5 – Mini Kit
The Adafruit Ultimate GPS HAT for Raspberry Pi is a practical and advanced add-on board designed for makers, developers, and electronics enthusiasts who want to add accurate positioning and timekeeping features to their Raspberry Pi projects. Based on Adafruit’s Ultimate GPS module, this HAT is compatible with Raspberry Pi A+, B+, Pi 2, Pi 3, Pi 4, and Pi 5, making it suitable for a wide range of personal, educational, and professional applications.
This board supports both GPS and GLONASS, delivering reliable and precise positioning data. It features high sensitivity, up to a 10Hz update rate, and a strong satellite search capability, allowing it to maintain stable performance in many outdoor environments. The built-in patch antenna works well for standard outdoor use, while the u.FL connector allows you to attach an external active antenna for improved reception in more challenging locations, such as indoors or areas with weaker signal coverage.
One of the key advantages of this HAT is the built-in real-time clock, which allows your Raspberry Pi to keep accurate time even when powered off, as long as a CR1220 backup battery is installed. This makes it especially useful for projects that require dependable timekeeping, logging, scheduling, or synchronization. The board also includes a PPS output on pin #4 and a fix-status LED, helping users monitor GPS lock and integrate the module into timing-sensitive applications.
In addition to its GPS functionality, the HAT includes a prototyping area and breakout access to additional Raspberry Pi pins, making it easier to expand your setup with extra sensors, LEDs, or other electronic components. It uses the Raspberry Pi hardware UART for communication with the GPS module, so it occupies the board’s RX/TX lines. The kit comes mostly assembled, but requires simple soldering of the 2×20 GPIO header. Please note that the CR1220 battery is not included.
